“Three” presents dance that is not afraid to be exposed and revealing, that does not apologize for fragility, humanity, and exaggeration, and provides a rare window into Naharin’s many years of movement research.
“Three” is a triptych consisting of the parts of los, humus, and scos. The triangular, theological structure suggests a return to the formal, bare, and everyday basis of dance. Virtuosity gives way to simple movement, rhythm, and unison, and the three parts are woven into a delicate lacework whose whole consists of a balance between “there is” and “there is not”; between empty space, silence, and a pause that are equally weighted by the body, the music, and the movement.
