The Chinese choreographer and multidisciplinary artist who created the choreography for the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics is coming to Israel with his troupe.
The company will perform a special dance evening consisting of two performances by the choreographer: “Rites of Spring” and “Folding.”
“The Rite of Spring” is a dialogue between movement, music and visual images performed by 12 dancers, to the sounds of Stravinsky’s work in a version for piano four hands.
“Folding” is a mesmerizing journey into the depths of the choreographer’s soul, in dreamscapes of signs and symbols, flashes and shadows. The dancers’ movements magnetize and hold the viewer like magic, to the sounds of spectacularly beautiful music that ranges from a collection of Buddhist hymns to pieces of celestial music by British composer John Towner.
“One of the most creative minds in the art world today.” (New York Sun)
“Amazing… If there is anything noteworthy in the world of dance, it is the astonishing work of Chinese choreographer Shen Wei.” (New York Times)
“The combination of the two shows creates a spectacular balance, resulting from the perfection of the movement language of “The Rite of Spring” and the perfection of the visual language of “Folding.”
