A mesmerizing dance version of Lev Tolstoy’s immortal book. A total and unique experience of intelligent choreography that combines classical language to describe the old world with contemporary applications, using video art.

Spock adapted this demanding 19th-century novel into a ballet, and in doing so thrilled and enthralled audiences in Zurich, Oslo, and Moscow.

In the dance, he focuses on the fate of the heroine, but also examines the lives of the other characters in the story. Their fates are transformed under his hands, and accompanied by the music of Rachmaninoff and Lutoslawski, into colorful and expressive images.

Choreography: Christian Shpock

Stage design: Christian Shpock and Jorg Zilensky

Music: Sergei Rachmaninoff, Witold Lutoslavsky, Solkan Tsintsadze and Joseph Bardanashvili

“More than just a choreographic work, Anna Karenina is a large-scale, unique and praiseworthy theatrical experience.”
