An ancient legend for modern times

The creation of the greatest storyteller in the world of contemporary dance
“To Deceive the Devil” is also a memory, a puzzle put together in the dark and presents the story of who we once were and perhaps will be again.

“Deceiving the devil” is an all-time myth intended for our time.

As my career as a dancer came to an end, I awakened to a new way of dancing, to dance my ideas through other bodies, including older dancers, who carry within them their own history and complex emotional experiences. But what remains consistent and unchanged is my passion to explore myths – old and new – in the context of our own time.

In this work, Kahn presents a story taken from one of the world’s most sublime works of literature, “The Epic of Gilgamesh,”

The ancient Sumerian epic. The chapter from the Epic of Gilgamesh that Kahn chose to bring to the stage tells a powerful story.

Akram Khan, born in the UK in 1974 to Bangladeshi immigrant parents, is considered one of the most respected choreographers working in the UK today. He has gained a reputation for his virtuoso movement language and the integration of different disciplines and cultures in his performances.

“To Deceive the Devil” is also a memory, a puzzle pieced together in the dark that tells the story of who we once were.

And maybe we will be again.

“A wondrous creation…beautiful choreography, sweeping the audience on a journey as ancient as time itself” France info

“A masterpiece inspired by the Epic of Gilgamesh, a profound and powerful performance” Le Croix
