Memories from Transcarpathia

The Hungarian National Folklore Ensemble brings to Israel a captivating, rich and colorful folk dance and music performance. Dozens of dancers, musicians and singers, and Hungarian violin music that penetrates the heart and makes the feet jump.

The new program of the Hungarian National Folklore Ensemble, Memories from Transcarpathia, presents for the first time in the history of Hungarian folk dance, the colorful and rich culture and tradition of the inhabitants who lived in Eastern Carpathia and Transcarpathia (Zakarpattia) – a mixture of different nationalities, Hungarians, Ukrainians, Russians, Jews, Romanians, Czechs and Gypsies. The performance connects the different cultures with the different national characteristics, emphasizing the common roots and historical similarities.

The show “Memories from Transcarpathia” presents a selection of dances, from czardas to fast czardas to Romanian-inspired dances, girls’ dances in the Russian spirit, Russian carnival dance, Christmas celebration, gypsy and virtuoso dances, and more.

The Hungarian National Folklore Ensemble was founded in 1951. Since then, its directors, dancers and musicians have been careful to maintain a high level of performance, and to bring the finest Hungarian folklore in all its styles and regions to audiences around the world. The high level and rich and diverse repertoire have made the ensemble one of the most sought-after bands throughout Hungary, with invitations to perform on the most prestigious stages in the world.
