“Sepia” – The performance is based on the novel “Woman in the Sands” by Kobo Abe, and examines human existence, the passing of time, and the dynamic nature of sand. The sand flows over the dancers’ bodies, covers the stage, dictates the rhythm and the images. It may be unstable, but for choreographer Tatiana Beganova, its qualities are power incarnate.
“The Wedding” – 20 years ago, the “Provincial Dances” production of “The Wedding” was awarded the title: “The first iconic performance of modern Russian dance.” The performance, based on the ancient wedding ceremonies of the peasants in Russia, continues to enjoy applause from the audience and critics to this day. The choreography by Tatyana Bagnova was created to the music of Stravinsky, who described his work as “singing pictures with poetry and music.” Bagnova moves freely between cultural layers and rhythms, while touching on a wide variety of dance styles, and in a unique language tells the story of the first meeting, the marriage proposal, the preparations for the wedding ceremonies and the sacred union – using folk motifs intertwined with contemporary dance.
