The Multipiano Pianist Ensemble and the Tremolo Percussion Ensemble – two groundbreaking ensembles that have achieved success in Israel and around the world, are joining forces for an extragalactic evening in which they will present a new performance of Gustav Holst’s groundbreaking work, “The Planets.”
Holst’s “The Planets” presents a sonic portrait of all the planets in the solar system. The iconic work, completed in 1918, revolutionized orchestral writing and became the inspiration for countless Hollywood film soundtracks, including “Star Wars.”
On the 100th anniversary of the work’s premiere, seven prominent Israeli composers – Yosef Bardanashvili, Avner Dorman, Avner Hanani, Tomer Yariv, Udi Perlman, Ziv Kazukro and Israel Sharon – returned to it and re-orchestrated it.
Equipped with two grand pianos and a dizzying array of percussion instruments, the ensembles will take us on an interstellar journey through a unique sound world that maintains a dialogue between past and present, revealing Holst’s immortal work through the eyes of contemporary composers.
In addition to Holst’s work, the works “Spanish Rhapsody” by Ravel and “Night on an Ice Mountain” by Mussorgsky will also be performed on the evening of the show.
