After performances on Broadway and a tour throughout the United States and Canada, the American musical, “Soul Doctor,” will arrive in Israel this June. It is a soulful musical celebration that tells the extraordinary life story of Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, the father of contemporary Jewish music, who created a bridge between generations and swept millions of fans around the world.
The production is led by Broadway star Josh Young (“Jesus Christ, Evita”) as Rabbi Carlebach, and alongside him is Israeli singer-musician and actress Esther Rada as Nina Simone. Rada, who has been taking off with her work in recent years, achieving great local and international success and performing all over the world, is now reaping another achievement with this leading role after being invited by the American producers to play Nina Simone.
The musical will open its tour in Israel with a festive performance as part of the Israel Festival at Beit Shmuel in Jerusalem (June 7, June 8, June 9, Beit Shmuel), and then the musical will continue to perform at Beit Shmuel for 6 consecutive weeks.
The musical is in English with a screened translation into Hebrew.
